Because they get a discount for it if they use Novell to do their networking.
If the Groupwise email client from Novell sucks so much, then why do so many universities use it?
If you think Groupwise sucks just try Lotus Notes for a while. It will leave you crying to go back Groupwise.
Reply:Do you have the best possible programs for all of your computer activities - digital editing, recording / editing audio files, etc? Unless you are fat, cat rich you don't. Same goes for universities. They (probably) go with what gets them the most bang for the buck - or is easy to support, provides adequate services and is cost effective.
It is a no brainer.
Who says Groupwise "sucks"? The same people that say Linux sucks, XYZ sucks, whatever they don't use sucks.
The opinion of anyone that uses "sucks" to blanket criticize anything should be considered dubious.
